Bumble Success Story: Nan + Garry
Nan and Garry matched on December 7th, 2016. They now share a home and are planning for an impending international adventure, among other things. Check out their story in their own words, below.
How long did it take to meet up after matching? What did you do for your first meet up/date?
We met up for one drink at a bar called Tradition in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco, 3 days after matching.
Nan, what was the first message you sent on Bumble?
"Good morning, Garry" — so I wouldn't lose the match.
Garry, what was your first reply back?
First move back was a simple "good morning" and asked how she was doing. We bonded quickly over being "weather wimps" in the winter.
Nan, how did this match feel different?
Honestly, his "About" was kind of vague (read: misleading). It said: "From Portland, live in San Francisco. In search of people with high vibrations. Looking for lasting relationships and increase my network of good people." And I thought he was cute — but goofy.
I liked one photo with his arms around a woman who appeared to be his grandmother. Not only could I see his clean-cut hair and style in that picture, but also the love he has for that woman. And that was attractive to me.
I knew though, right away, when we had our first drink together that he was different. He has lived some life! Which means he views the world differently than most.
Garry, how did this match feel different?
We bonded within a few messages and I think we were both aware of our intrigue of each other. Social issues being a major point of interest.
Nan, what was your first impression of Garry? How did you feel before the first date?
I was pleasantly surprised at how tall and handsome he was. I assumed that he was kind of a "party boy" based on the fact that he ordered a margarita as his drink of choice. The first date was nice because I had already been out with friends and I decided to meet up with Garry for a drink on my way home. I didn't have expectations other than "let me go see what this guy is all about." We had a good conversation right away.
Garry, what was your first impression of Nan? How did you feel before the first date?
My first impression of Nan, besides her obvious beauty, was that she was very put together, driven, and organized. And [not likely to put up with my bullshit] has low patience for low vibration people. The first date was not pre-planned, so it happened quickly. We agreed to meet up as we were in the same area. There was no room to be nervous, so there was just excitement and intrigue.
Nan, what do you consider a unique aspect of your relationship now?
What people may not know is that we actually spend a lot of time physically being apart, which isn't always fun, but to me, is one of the life forces of our love.
Garry, what do you consider a unique aspect of your relationship now?
I think we have a unique blend of commonalities based on both of our past experiences and upbringing, combined with enough differences that create attraction and passion.
What are your favorite things to do together?
We spend a lot of time cooking, juicing things, practicing yoga, working out, seeing live music, going to comedy shows, and doing my spin classes! We love watching Insecure and Game of Thrones and shooting hoops like in the movie "Love & Basketball."
Where are you now? Where are you headed in the future?
We recently moved in together this past May and are somehow managing to still make it work in a little studio apartment. We try not to let too much time pass (no more than two weeks) between moments of acknowledging one another. We actually devote time to thank and admire the other person.
We've had some challenging conversations, too! Those ones are never easy, but we are always committed to finding a resolution and ensuring that there is no love, affinity, or trust lost. We are both registered to do the Landmark Forum together in December, which will be awesome to do before we head into year two together.
We are also looking forward to our first international trip together in January 2018 to Spain, for our birthdays! But mostly, we're just very grateful to have found each other and are thankful for Bumble for creating that possibility! He is DEFINITELY putting a ring on it.
Nan and Garry, thank you so much for sharing your success story with us! We couldn't be happier for you two!
