Bumble Celebrates First Movers for International Women’s Day
When we first launched Bumble, we were told our app would never be successful because women would never make the first move. Those doubts only inspired us to work harder to change society’s perspectives. We were determined to change the stereotypes placed on both women and men in the dating landscape. A little over two years later, women have made the first move on Bumble over 250 million times.
With International Women’s Day in mind, we’ve teamed up with some of the most influential female First Movers in their respective industries. Aly Raisman, Barbara Corcoran, Kelsea Ballerini, and Sophia Danenberg have defied naysayers and proven people wrong. We want to honor their achievements.
Today, we ask you to celebrate your own first moves. However small they may feel, first moves are a step in the direction of creating the life of your dreams. We want to hear about times when you'e made the first move! Share your stories with us on social media using the hashtag #MakeTheFirstMove!

As Written By Our Founder and CEO, Whitney Wolfe
I am, and we are, women who have dated and continue to date in a male-dominated world. I am, and we are, women who network, have had jobs and will continue to have jobs in a male dominate culture. I am, and we are, women who have experienced the struggles of female friendship. We have felt the pain of attempting to build a friendship in a world that trains women to be jealous and competitive with one another.I am, and we are, women who have grown up in a world where we were told to play a submissive role with men in every category, not just dating.
I want to change the way connecting happens. We care deeply about making an impact, not only through product and tech, but in the way we can stand up for an individual user, or millions of users. We listen to our users. We give them what they want and need through things like new safety features.
Our brand wants to push the limits and break through the antiqued gender roles we have quite literally been bred to believe. Everything (love, friendship, work) starts with a connection. We plan to be a force for change towards a better society and world.
We are every single woman getting on the app to look for love, friendship, a job, and more. We have been them and will continue to be them. We aren’t perfect.
We have a long way to go, and we won’t stop.
