Bumble Success Story: Robin + Austin
Robin and Austin matched on Bumble on March 16th, 2017. Below is their story in their own words!
What was the first move?
Robin: The first message I sent Austin on Bumble was “Hi there” with the heart eye emoji!
Austin: My first response to Robin was “Hey” with a smile emoji. Super basic.
How long did it take you to meet up after you matched?
Robin: It only took us about one week to meet in real life. Our first date was 10 hours long! Austin picked me up in his truck (which was a big deal to me since we live 40 minutes away from each other) from my best friend’s house- I was so nervous I almost didn’t go outside! But I did, and we drove down the shore (yes in the winter, another hour away!) listening to our favorite genre of music- country. It was basically a big karaoke session. Then we sat on a cold, breezy dock and talked for a few hours. And he let me wear his hoodie! Later that evening, we saw Beauty and the Beast in Austin’s hometown theater and shared a popcorn and soda. After that, he drove me the 40 minutes back to my best friend’s apartment complex where my car was, but before he left, he kissed me right there in the parking lot. It was straight out of a movie. It was the best first date I have ever been on.
Austin: I believe it was only a few days that we were talking on Bumble, then we moved onto Snapchat and texting. For our first date, we decided to do a beach trip. I picked Robin up at her friend’s house. It was a little adventurous for a first date, but for some reason I didn't feel very nervous. We didn't stop talking the entire ride down and we just clicked. It felt like we knew each other for years rather than a few minutes or hours. We made it to the beach and sat on a dock in the bay…and just kept hitting it off! We left the beach and headed back towards my town because we decided that we wanted to see Beauty and the Beast. Robin was nervous that she was dragging me to see it, but actually, I was excited to go see it with her. After the movie, it was starting to get late so we headed back to her town, listening to music, talking and having a ball in the car. When we got back to her car, it was nothing but smiles. I leaned in for a kiss in that parking lot and she leaned in, too. Success! It was a nearly 10 hour first date and I hadn't had that much fun or a connection like that in a long time. I knew I had to see her again.
Did this match feel different?
Robin: This match really did feel different! It sounds so cliché but after seeing Austin’s pictures, I knew he was someone I would become close with if we met. Our first conversation was just very easy and he was very friendly, attentive and quick to respond. Even still to this day he remembers things I mentioned in conversation on Bumble! Not every guy online is like that.
Austin: Matching with Robin was different because none of our conversations were dull or boring and I knew I wanted to meet her. We had a lot in common. She was actually interested in me and wanted to learn about me. I wanted to do the same for her, there was just something about her.
What do you consider a unique aspect of your relationship?
Robin: A unique aspect of our relationship is how comfortable we are with each other. We had an instant click the first day we met and still to this day I have never felt an awkward silence or awkward moment with Austin. It’s just always natural and comfortable. Also, we each have our own hobbies that we tend to separately and then we have shared interests and activities we do together. There is a nice balance in the relationship.
Austin: A unique aspect of our relationship is that no matter what mood either of us are in, we make each other laugh. We can talk through and about everything not feel weird. We are able to have legitimate conversations about the future and what we want, which is something I haven't been able to do in the past. I have opened up to Robin more than anyone.
What's the future look like for you two?
Robin: We are happy. We actually just got back from our first weekend away together. We went to Atlantic City and spent way too much money gambling and eating! But we had the best time- I don’t think I stopped laughing the entire time we were together. We are planning to visit Las Vegas, Florida, Washington DC, and a Caribbean island in the near-ish future!
Austin: We are officially dating now and we try to see each other as much as we can. I see us getting more serious because we have the same "wants" and dreams for our future. We are planning to travel to new places together, too.
Thanks so much to Robin and Austin for sharing your story with us! We're so happy for you!
